The exception of the newly introduced Countryman crossover, the rest of MINI's lineup that includes the hatchback, Clubman and convertible models has received a subtle facelift with styling updates and new diesel engines for the 2011 model year.
All variants of the MINI sport a new from bumper design engineered to improve pedestrian protection courtesy of larger deformation zones, new light elements in the headlamps, revised side indicators that sit in the redesigned side gill housings, restyled rear bumper and standard LED tail lights on all models. The five new paint colors and fresh alloy wheel designs complete the exterior upgrades.
Inside, there are redesigned controls for the centre console, steering wheel, air conditioning and audio systems, as well as new materials and colors including six new upholstery choices, three new fascia options and two new interior color lines for door and side panels.
New features for the 2011MY include a retractable roller-type luggage compartment cover for the Clubman and updated audio and navigation systems for all models.
Under the hood, there's an all-new 1.6-liter diesel engine that shares the same bore/stroke ratio, all aluminium construction, common rail direct injection and turbocharging tech with variable turbine geometry as BMW's 2.0-liter diesel units. In the MINI, it will be available in two flavors with 90HP (One D) and 112HP (Cooper D).
MINI says that the One D hatch accelerates from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 11.4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 185km/h or 115mph, while returning 3.8lt/100km [74.3mph UK or 61.9mpg US] in the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.
The more powerful Cooper D completes the sprint in 9.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 198 km/h or 123mph, while returning the same fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures as the One D.
In addition, the MINI Convertible will be available for the first time with this diesel engine.
The refreshed 2011 MINI will go on sale in most markets in September.
